It lives!
Back in July I had a bit of a fiasco involving an attempt to reshape a hat. Had I known that some hats are held together almost entirely by water-soluble glue, I never would have given it a bath. Fortunately, the glue was still sticky, so I made a makeshift hat block and smooshed the "petals" back into place. When it was dry the fabric stiffener miraculously re-stiffened, and now it looks even better than it used to, although it did suffer the tragic loss of its veil which couldn't be saved. I don't know that it would survive a trip to Gladys and Morty's for a game of canasta, but it's at least durable enough to hang on the wall of my dressing room (it's the one on the far left).

I'm really savouring the image of you playing canasta at Gladys & Morty's while sporting your reconditioned chapeau, your fabulous over-the-knee socks and the mini skirt that sets them off so well.

Mother,
One does not wear a mini skirt to play canasta - Morty and Gladys are not hosting a be-in.
Canasta is a card game that requires modest 50s attire, canapes, and discussions about whether or not Judy Holliday was a communist. There should be nary a "sock-it-to-me" mentioned.
Love,
Petula

Dear Readers,
Out of concern of any possible misunderstanding over the correspondence above, Petula would like to go on record as saying she has a most fabulous mother. In fact, Petula's friends have been known to say that she's cooler than Petula herself (shocking, I know!).
Any mockery of her mother's fashion sense is done out of love and longstanding mother/daughter tradition.
xoxo,
Petula

Is that really your mother commenting on your blog? If so, then I think she's definately one hip and swell cookie.
Can I tell you how jealous I am of that dressing room and your hat display. Seething. Green. Envy.
